I Heart Miri | friends from australia
June 1, 2010
The month of March and April was a busy month for me, not too much on work but with the youth ministry that is very close to my heart. We had a bunch of youths from YWAM (Youth With A Mission) that were attached to us for 7 weeks. What’s so amazing about these bunch of young people is that they are already learning the life of a missionary at this young age, some of them had just completed their high school.
First week in Miri they’ve already gotten themselves busy!

Went down to Brunei just to visit different cultures other than Sarawak’s. The plan was to visit the Museums but found out that it was a public holiday on that day.

So what we did was just hang around town. But it was also a good opportunity for all of us to get to know each other better. Thought that the being from different countries and cultures and all would have made it hard for us to get along well, but not at all! We clicked just like that. Conversations after conversations, followed by lame jokes :p we were on a roll.

The YWAMs primary objective however is ministry.
To put it in a more serious way, it is the heartbeat of the whole reason why they are here.
Arrangements were made pre-planned to occupy their time while in Miri. There was the Youth Ministry, Outreach, Prayer, House Visitation Ministry etc.

But one of the ministry that caught their heart was the Slums Ministry, where they get the opportunity to share with the poor community. And oh how much they love ministering to the kids!

From visiting brunei to ministry involvements, they took some time off to just show us how much they love Miri.
Knowing that im a photographer, they did not hesitate (ok, im just exaggerating) at all to ask me to do a photoshoot session for them.
Best way to describe these “models”, NATURAL!

Oh again and again, how i love the sun!

Okay, it’s not such a long post after all.
What i’ve learned during the times spent with the team is that no matter how different your nationality, culture, how you speak, what you eat, the way you eat, when you have the heart to serve it all doesn’t matter anymore. We were all created equally and it is our responsibility to bless others equally as how God has blessed us. Perhaps we even should bless others more.
To the YWAMs, I miss all of you (yes, ive said it!). Not only you have blessed me in so many ways, but what you’re all doing now is such a huge encouragement to me to give my best in serving Him.
I’ve gained not just friends, but brothers and sisters.
See you soon!
EYM Kids Ministry
November 30, 2009
Yesterday, my church youth group was approached to help out in the church’s ministry for the less fortunate children. A lot of the younger ones from EYM volunteered themselves to help out in either teaching and sharing the word of God or helping out in assisting the kids. Everyone had a blast during story-telling and the games. Even as i was holding my camera, i was laughing non-stop the whole time! Such joy only comes once in a while, and this was one of those moments where you will be reminded and appreciate the little things you have in life. Some of the youths went over to visit their homes at the construction site. To experience a little bit of their everyday life, humbled us a lot and makes us realize that we actually are very fortunate to have the things that we have now.
Here are some of my personal favourite shots during the whole session.

You can see the rest of the pictures in this slideshow.
Enjoy.
